OM Ireland continues to pioneer and lead a range of projects in local communities in the North West and the Midlands.
Amazing Grace
When OM Ireland Director, Mike Mullins discovered the historical link between the story of John Newton (writer of the famous hymn "Amazing Grace") and Lough Swilly in Co Donegal he shared this discovery with community leaders.
Throughout 2007, OM Ireland was involved in a range of projects to celebrate this historic link including the pre-screening of the film "Amazing Grace" in Buncrana, an "Amazing Grace" celebration on Easter Day (anniversary of John Newton's arrival in Ireland) and the production of a website and tourist brochure explaining the story.

Hymn writer John Newton penned Amazing Grace to describe his own spiritual journey a journey which began after a violent storm in the Atlantic Ocean. When all hope was lost, Newton's ship found refuge in Lough Swilly, County Donegal, Ireland.
Shoebox Appeal
In partnership with Samaritan's Purse Ireland, OM Ireland is delighted to support the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Appeal. For a number of years, OM Ireland team members have organised the shoebox appeal in Inishown, Co Donegal. In 2008, a dedicated team of local volunteers helped to collect a total of 2,403 boxes from 20 schools as well as community groups and generous individuals.
"Words cannot express how much these simple gifts will mean to the children who receive them", shared OM Ireland team member Ruth Garvey-Williams. "The smiles on their faces will be worth every ounce of effort that went into this special project. With all our heart we want to say Thank you Inishowen!"
The shoebox appeal benefits thousands of the world's poorest children but also enables Irish children to give to those in need. "In the run up to Christmas, so many children are focused on what they will receive. This is an opportunity for young people to give to others. Many of our local schools whole-heartedly embrace the project, knowing that it has benefits for our youngsters as well as those overseas," Ruth added.
Team members in Roscommon are also supporting the appeal in practical ways.
