Last month, OM Guatemala team members and nine foreign volunteers travelled to Tiquisate, a city in the southwest of the country. Some of the volunteers did not speak Spanish, and those who did knew only the basics. However, the team visited eight public schools and shared with over 2,600 students, 520 of whom wanted to receive Christ!
“It was very hot, we were very tired, but the hand of God was always with us,” said Pilar Castro, leader of OM Guatemala. “The last day when I just wanted to go home we went to a place where there was much violence, drugs and broken homes, with absent fathers. When we asked the children what they dreamed of being when they grew up, some said, ‘I want to be a major drug dealer,’ or ‘a professional thief.’ That was all they had seen every day.”
Pilar talked to a nine-year-old girl whose face held more bitterness than Pilar had seen on any child. When asked what she dreamed of, the girl replied, “nothing.” Pilar learned that the girl’s father had left her mother for another woman and she was full of hatred. Pilar spoke to the child for a long time about God’s love for her, and was finally rewarded with a smile.
Please pray for these children who don’t yet know Christ and for those who indicated their desire to follow Him. Please also pray for an outreach the OM Guatemala team hope to do in September.
