Raising support with rubber ducks

Chile

OM International
Rubber DucksSometimes OM workers struggle to raise enough support to fund their work in missions. Sometimes, support raised at the beginning drops off. One woman serving with OM Chile has experienced this. After raising her support, leaving the Netherlands and being on the field for a few months, she found that the money coming in each month for her dropped dramatically. She prayed, the team in Chile prayed, and her core group of strong supporters back home prayed.

Her supporters came up with an idea to raise money that was both creative and fun—a duck race! They rented little rubber ducks, approached businesses about donating prizes, and went house to house through two villages and in churches to ‘sell’ the ducks. Each person who ‘bought’ a duck showed up the day of the race, hoping to see their duck cross the finish line first. All along a small canal, people lined up to watch almost 1,000 sponsored ducks drop into the water and make their way to the finish line. Not only did participants have fun, but they learned about the purpose of the race, the ministry of OM and the work being done in Chile.

Praise God for providing creativity and 1,000 rubber ducks to cover the gap in the OM worker’s support. Pray that God would provide financially for all OM workers in Latin America.
